Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge Grant program enables Pennsylvania schools to implement or enhance healthy lifestyle programs for students

The Highmark Foundation, through the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge grant program, recently awarded $921,522 to support physical activity, nutrition, self-esteem and bullying prevention programs in 130 Pennsylvania schools. The grants are awarded to provide schools with the resources to implement or enhance unique and creative programs that will help improve the overall health and well-being of students.

The Highmark Foundation joined with Pennsylvania's Secretary of Education Gerald Zahorchak and experts on children's issues to discuss the progress of bullying prevention programs in Pennsylvania. Since 2006, Highmark Healthy High 5, a five-year, $100 million children's health promotion initiative of the Highmark Foundation, has awarded more than $5.1 million to expand and enhance bullying prevention programs at 136 schools across Pennsylvania.

The Highmark Foundation, through the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge, recently awarded nearly $526,000 in grants to 65 elementary, middle and high schools across Pennsylvania during the second quarter of 2008. The grants will support programs that address bullying prevention and self-esteem, improve nutrition education, enhance nutrition choices and provide opportunities for physical activity.

Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge program awards $605,000 in grants to 75 Pennsylvania schools
PITTSBURGH (April 10, 2008)
The Highmark Foundation awarded $605,000 in grants to 75 schools, grades K-12 across Pennsylvania. The grants will support programs that address bullying prevention and self-esteem, improve nutrition education, enhance nutrition choices and provide opportunities for physical activity. Due to the overwhelming response received from schools, The Highmark Foundation has also approved an additional $1.5 million to be awarded through the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge increasing the resources to award a total of $2.5 million this year.

Highmark Healthy High 5 announces bullying poster contest
PITTSBURGH (Jan. 18, 2008)
The Highmark Foundation announced that students will have the opportunity to participate, through their schools, in a bullying poster contest to raise awareness about the persistent problems of bullying.
