Highmark Healthy High 5 action in the communities we serve

Below are just a few of the events in which Highmark Healthy High 5 had a significant role. Highmark Healthy High 5 sponsors several events each year, and through our partners we support many more events that aim to help children adopt healthy habits.

Second annual Children's Grief Awareness Day

Date: November 19, 2009

Location: Highmark Caring Place locations and schools across Pennsylvania

The Event: The Highmark Caring Place, a Highmark Healthy High 5 signature partner, promoted Children’s Grief Awareness Day in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Nov. 19. The Highmark Caring Place encouraged everyone to show support for grieving children by wearing a blue shirt on Nov. 19. The Highmark Caring Place's supporting Caring Team schools promoted the message in a variety of creative and innovative ways. For more information, visit www.highmarkcaringplace.com.

The International Bullying Prevention Association’s annual conference

Date: November 17-18, 2009

Location: Omni William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, PA

The Event: Highmark Healthy High 5 was a presenting sponsor of the International Bullying Prevention Association’s annual conference, which was held Nov. 17 and 18 in Pittsburgh. Hundreds of school-based professionals attended to learn how bullying prevention programs can be put into practice at their respective schools. Dr. Dan Olweus was a featured speaker. SPARK Training Workshops

Date: May 20 and 21, 2009

Location: Hershey — Penn State Hershey Medical Center, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA

The Event: For organizations accepted to the SPARK Active Recreation program, Highmark Healthy High 5 provides curriculum binders, as well as 12 hours of mandatory training over a consecutive, two-day period in Workshops I & II. For more information, visit www.paspark.org.

The Event: nrg Powered by Choice is a signature program of Highmark Healthy High 5 that provides the framework for engaging teens in creating healthy changes and gives teens the materials and resources necessary to make healthy changes. Kickoff the 2009/2010 school year on a healthy note with nrg Powered by Choice…get started with the 2009 nrg Back to School Pack. Highmark Healthy High 5 Bullying Prevention Institute

Date: Jan. 26, 2009

Location: University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

The Event: A Day with Stan Davis: Learning to Build Schools Where Everyone Belongs. Stan Davis, a nationally known Olweus bullying prevention consultant, presented this full-day event for school-based professionals who have an interest in empowering students to work together to prevent bullying in their buildings. Other professionals who interact with school-aged children also attended. Professionals who attend the full-day sessions are eligible for Continuing Education Credits.
