Funding Considerations
For nonprofit organizations
To improve the health and well-being of our children
There are numerous factors that the Foundation considers in deciding whether
to fund a specific project.
They include, but are not limited to the following criteria:
- Address one or more Highmark Healthy High 5 focus areas of children's health
promotion
- Incorporate evidence-based programs in the area(s) of
nutrition, physical activity, self-esteem, or bullying prevention
- Expand an existing program with proven outcomes
- Implement an evidence-based program related to children's health promotion
For nonprofit organizations, there is no minimum or maximum amount for Highmark
Healthy High 5 grants. Multi-year commitments may be made, depending upon the
request.
Funding Examples
- Mentoring programs with self-esteem component
- Food and nutrition programs that measure knowledge, behavioral changes,
and healthy food choices
- Bullying prevention programs with proven outcomes that measure behavioral
changes
- Physical activity programs that measure the number of increased minutes of
moderate or vigorous activity
Funding restrictions
Highmark Healthy High 5 generally will not provide support for:
- Annual fundraising campaigns
- Camps
- Capital campaigns
- Clinical research
- Deficit funding
- Endowment funds
- Fraternal or civic groups
- Individuals
- Operational expenses
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex, disability
or national origin
- Overhead costs or direct financial subsidy of health services to individuals
or groups
- Political causes or campaigns
- Religious programming
- Sports teams
- Scholarships
