Promotion of Physical Activity Needed

According to the Center for Disease Control, Obesity Fact Sheet, these key points apply to Pennsylvania's children and adolescents:

  • 50% of high school students have not participated in 20 minutes of physical activity in the past seven days.
  • 79% of high school students have not participated in 30 minutes of physical activity in the past seven days.
  • 15% of high school students had not participated in any physical activity in the past seven days.
  • 56% of high school students are not enrolled in a physical education class.
  • 76% of students do not attend physical education classes daily.

Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Young people need 60 minutes of physical activity daily. An active lifestyle as a family promotes positive lifelong habits.
